Overview

Sushi Hut, nestled in the vibrant laneway of 353 Little Collins St in Melbourne’s CBD, offers a fresh take on Japanese cuisine that resonates well with office workers and sushi lovers alike. This compact eatery specializes in generously sized sushi rolls that pack bold flavors and varied combinations, making it a standout spot for a quick, satisfying meal.

Visitors appreciate the balance Sushi Hut strikes between quality and portion. The sushi rice is often praised for its perfect texture, complemented by fresh prawns and crispy chicken that provide a pleasing contrast in every bite. The wasabi deserves a special mention for its genuine kick and depth of flavor, elevating the experience beyond typical takeaway sushi. Pickled ginger is served liberally, adding a refreshing touch that enhances each roll.

The space is small and cozy, geared more toward solo diners or pairs rather than large groups, making it ideal for a casual lunch break or a swift dinner. Though the setup leans toward takeaway, the intimate laneway ambiance and attentive staff contribute to a relaxed and friendly vibe. The one-person operation behind the counter is noted for being personable and efficient, creating a welcoming atmosphere without feeling rushed.

Some customers have noted that the rice can be a bit abundant or chewy in certain brown rice rolls, hinting at room for small refinements. Even so, the price-to-size ratio remains fair, and the line during busy hours reflects its popularity in the CBD.

In essence, Sushi Hut thrives as a neighborhood gem for those seeking hearty, well-crafted sushi in a bustling urban setting. It’s perfect for anyone wanting a flavorful, no-frills Japanese fix without the formality of a full-service restaurant. Whether grabbing a quick lunch or a casual bite after work, Sushi Hut hits the right notes in flavor and convenience.

Basically takeaway only. Sushi rolls are very large and there is always a line during the week

Definitely one of the best sushi rolls I’ve had in Melbourne. Fairly priced for the size and quality offered. However, I did find them to have tad too much rice. They can certainly reduce some rice and still sell for the same price. Also rice in some of the brown rice rolls was a bit chewy. Maybe needed to be cooked for a little longer.

Great little place for a quick office lunch! Generous sizes and delicious food. Rarely do those two descriptors go together, but both are true in this case. Sushi rice is perfect, prawns are fresh, chicken is crispy, wasabi is pretty good (most places give you watered down stuff, this wasabi was both spicy and flavorsome). The guy looks like he does it all himself, he is attentive and then lets you alone to eat. Very generous with the pickled ginger! Yum! Happy I came, probs not for a date night but great for a cheap casual feed. Too small for groups but I suppose they do platters. Well done, very happy office worker!

Very delicious sushi. You have options of white or brown rice. And they have so many interesting and different flavours and some of the more common ones like salmon and avocado. The best part is they give you fresh wasabi and ginger and not the ones from the package like most other places.

Been coming here for 8 years now. Same great owners, same great taste. Spicy egg is delicious. And so is rest of their spicy range.
